Situation
Sound Shore Indoor Tennis, an established 12-court indoor facility, and US Open alternate location located in Port Chester, New York, and community gathering place for more than forty years, was facing increasing competition from the tri-state area. The branding and collateral materials were dated and had never been updated since opening, including the interior and exterior building signage.
Strategy
To remain competitive and relevant, and continue to attract world-class teaching talent, Sound Shore retained Burns Communications to conduct a comprehensive rebrand. Burns Communications developed a year-long, three-phase strategic plan that included concepting a new look and feel for the company, a new brand ID log and tagline, refreshed brand messaging and positioning language, and spearheaded a complete redesign and rewrite of the company’s website and digital and print marketing materials, including a comprehensive class and clinic year-round schedule. The agency also launched a public relations campaign in the Westchester and Fairfield County area, and concepted and developed a digital archival photographic library for future brand marketing communications needs.
Results
Lifelong and new clients, tennis coaches and employees, as well as community members and area VIPs enthusiastically embraced the brand redesign, resulting in significantly increased membership and class enrollment over the following year. Sound Shore was also in a position to begin to attract some of the tennis industry’s top talent from across the nation and retain their status as the US Open rain date location.
